Therefore, two consumption rates (g/year) were generated, one using a 45:55 plant/animal diet ratio and the other using a 35:65 plant/animal diet ratio. We assumed 15% animal fat for animal’s body composition. For a 45:55 plant/animal diet ratio, percent of energy per day from protein is 26 %, from carbohydrates is 28%, and from fat is 46%. For a 35:65 plant/animal diet ratio, percent of energy per day from protein is 28%, from carbohydrates is 22%, and from fat is 50% (Table 4). We assumed consumption of 2000 calories per day. In order to calculate the daily consumption rate in grams for protein, carbohydrates and fat for the two different ratios of plant/animal diet, we multiplied calories per day by percent of Energy/day and divided that amount by energy yield (4 kcal/g for protein, 4 kcal/g for carbohydrates, and 9 kcal/g for fat). These amounts were then each multiplied by 365 days/year. We then took the average of the two ratio’s protein, carbohydrate, and fat consumption rates. In order to receive our final values, we split this calculation in half between at home and away from home consumption.
