About this metric

water used outside

The amount of water used outdoors. We estimate this as a proportion of the total water used inside, which is the piped water demand adjusted for graywater recycling (if any).

Outdoor water use = total inside water * (proportion of piped water used outdoors / (1 - proportion of piped water used outdoors))

Used to calculate: evapotranspiration, impervious runoff from hardtops, pervious runoff from soil, leaky pipes and graywater recycled

Depends upon:

—Parameters: proportion of piped water used outdoors

—Other metrics: water used inside
